The bearing support and brake, for the shaft of an open-end spinning rotor, has an axial air bearing (11) for the shaft and a brake which applies a relaxing axial force on the air bearing when it acts. The rotor brake (17) has at least one brake pad (23) which can be applied radially to the rotor shaft (3). The brake pad or the rotor shaft has a structured surface (33), as spiral grooves (34), which gives the relaxing axial force (E).
