PURPOSE: A computer system and a method for controlling the same are provided to enable a user to execute a progressed job continuously by supplying a user-wanted environment although the user uses other computer. CONSTITUTION: A user executes a job on a computer system(S10). If the user does not use the computer for a long time, the computer system is entered in an energy saving mode(S12). The computer system determines whether a system memory card is mounted(S14). If a system memory card is mounted, the computer system stores the final job environment in the system memory card(S16). In the case that the user uses other computer and the power is applied to a computer system, a south bridge, a north bridge, and a CPU are initialized sequentially by responding to a reset signal. The CPU checks whether the system memory card is mounted. If the system memory card is mounted, the CPU executes a BIOS stored in the system memory card and boots the system. An operating system is loaded from a hard disk in accordance with an operating system environment, an O/S booting is executed. The final job state is recovered in accordance with the final job environment stored in the system memory card.
