<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system and method in which password information is easily controlled, and a portal company web server which is suitable for the authentication system and method. <P>SOLUTION: A portal company web server 20 sends portal authentication information in response to a request for a membership registration of the portal site including personal information sent from a user terminal 10, and stores the personal information in a database 21 so that the membership registration of the portal site is conducted. When the user terminal gets certified as a member of the portal site in response to a request for a membership registration of a content company site including content specified information, the portal web server sends personal information modified to fit a registration form of the content company site to a content company web server 30 to require a user registration thereto. The content company web server issues and sends content security code information in response to the request to the portal company web server.
