PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a texture removal process precisely even without having to perform a prescan and without requiring a large memory. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus is provided with the following components: an image input portion 1 inputting image data; a texture level detection portion 2 detecting a texture level of image data input in the image input portion 1; a past texture level storage memory 3 retaining texture levels detected by the texture level detection portion 2; a texture level estimation portion 4 estimating the texture level of a pixel to be next scanned, using data retained in the past texture level storage memory 3; and a texture removal processing portion 6 removing the texture of the image data input, using the texture level estimated with the texture level estimation portion 4.
