PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner for a portable information terminal having excellent portability, realizing secure reading and a simple operation including cleaning of reading face and image quality adjustment, and to easily protect the reading surface and prevent erroneous operation. SOLUTION: A rotation head unit 1 able to rotate separately from a main body connection unit 2 is provided, and the rotation head unit 1 is provided with a line image sensor 4 and a guide roller unit 30 adjacent to each other. Thus the reading surface 4a of the line image sensor 4 can be easily positioned to contact a targeted object 80 and an image reading operation can be easily performed by rolling the guide roller 60 on the object 80. Also, secure reading can be attained by pressing the reading surface 4a against the object 80 by the rotation head unit 1 and a spring member 8. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
