PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and/or reproducing device capable of reducing power consumption in the course of track follow-up operation, in seek operation, and in spindle motor start, and a method for saving power therefor, with respect to an information recording and/or reproducing device for recording information on a medium and/or for reproducing the information from the medium, and a method for saving power therefor. SOLUTION: The information recording and/or reproducing device reproduces servo information previously recorded on the medium and executes the track follow up operation based on the servo information. The frequency of tack follow up control in the course of the track follow up operation is reduced. Power saving is done in the course of the seek operation except in reproducing the servo information. In addition, the power saving is done until a spindle motor has stationary revolving speed.
