The invention relates to a method for determining current location-specific information of individuals by using acoustic and/or optical information, whereby a mobile or stationary receiver is assigned to each individual. This receiver contains items of information, which are filed in a memory and to each of which a code signal is assigned. One or more first emitters emit code signals in areas that are each spatially delimited. The receiver disposes of playback means for playing back items of information filed in the memory, and the receiver plays back these items of information when it receives the code signal that is assigned to the item of information. The invention provides that second emitters emit information signals and associated code signals in spatially delimited areas, said signals being stored by receivers. The invention also relates to an emitting/receiving system as well as to a receiver, particularly integrated inside a shopping cart handle, for carrying out this method.
