<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause no problem of an enhancement of noise, a generation of overshoot/undershoot and the like when a sharpening process is done to a digital image data. <P>SOLUTION: The sharpening process is done each pixel by varying a pixel value of a central pixel using the pixel value of a pixel group in a prescribed range with the pixel positioning at a center regarding the image data of an original image. With regard to a first pixel and the central pixel included in the pixel group, a first variation v<SB>1</SB>which is a variation of a pixel value f0 of the central pixel to a pixel value f1 of the first pixel is calculated. In regard to the central pixel and a second pixel which is positioned symmetrically to the first pixel toward the central pixel, a second variation v<SB>2</SB>which is a variation of a pixel value f2 of the second pixel to the pixel value f0 of the contral pixel is calculated. The sharpening process is done without using the pixel values of the first and the second pixels when one of the first variation v<SB>1</SB>and the second variation v<SB>2</SB>is positive and the other is negative. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
