MAGNETIC RESONANCE METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR QUANTIFICATION OF ANISOTROPIC DIFFUSION

An MR method and system for determining elements of the apparent diffusion coefficient tensor in a material with anisotropic structural units. MR data is acquired (148) with MR or spectroscopy pulse sequences (146) with embedded diffusion sensitizing gradient waveforms. A non-linear function of a b-value (154) corresponding to the pulse sequence is defined and the acquired data is processed according to the non-linear function. Images or maps (158) of the components of the tensor of apparent diffusion coefficients are created from the data.
