PURPOSE: A device for selecting a hard disk for constructing a multi-function of a computer system and a selecting method thereof are provided to select a master/slave function, prevent an unnecessary electric power consumption, and prevent an operation error of a selected hard disk. CONSTITUTION: A controller(210) creates a signal for selecting many hard disks mounted in a computer system. A selection connection unit(220) connects a hard disk selected in accordance with a hard disk selection signal being created in the controller(210) to a computer main board. An external power supply unit(240) which supplies 5-volt AC current for controlling a micro controller(221) is connected to the selection connection unit(220). The controller(210) includes display units comprising buttons for selecting one hard disk and a master/slave selection button. The display units also include a light emitting diode for displaying a selected hard disk. The selection connection unit(220) includes the micro controller(221) for selecting a hard disk by a button operation of the controller(210), a power control unit(222) for controlling a power being supplied to the hard disk, and a hard disk drive control unit(223).
