PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure easy to re-light a short arc type ultra-high pressure discharge lamp and necessary for re-lighting the same. SOLUTION: The short arc type ultra-high pressure discharge lamp in which, a pair of electrodes (6, 7) facing with each other are arranged, is composed of a light emitting part (2) in which, mercury of not less than 0.15 mg/mm<SP>3</SP>is enclosed, and a sealing parts (3) extended at both sides of the light emitting part, sealing a part of electrodes (6, 7).
