PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system in which an installing position of a monitoring unit can be suitably changed with substantially no a limit on the installation place. SOLUTION: The monitoring system comprises the monitoring unit installed at the monitoring place for monitoring an object to be monitored existing at the monitoring place, an image server unit installed at a suitable place separate from the monitoring place, and a portable terminal unit carried by a monitor for monitoring the object to be monitored so that the units are connected to the Internet. The monitoring unit has a power source utilizing a natural energy, an imaging means for imaging persons, a monitoring side transmitting/receiving means for radio transmitting/receiving and a control means on a movable base. The image server has a server side transmitting/receiving means connected to the image server via the Internet, and a recording means for recording the image data.
