IMAGE RETRIEVAL METHOD AND APPARATUS RESISTANT TO ILLUMINATION CHANGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval method and apparatus resistant to illumination changes. SOLUTION: The image retrieval method includes an input step in which a user inputs both the request of image retrieval resistant to illumination changes and a query image; a conversion step in which the query image is converted to standard illumination colors; an extraction step in which the color information of the query image converted is extracted using a color descriptor; and a retrieval step in which various images are converted to the standard illumination colors and this color information is extracted and compared to a stored database to search for similar images. Thus, in a conventional retrieval method using color information, there is the effect of enabling image retrieval resistant to illumination changes further through only a linearization process based on the conversion of standard illumination without changing the structure of the color descriptor and a method of comparing similarities.
