PURPOSE: An SMS(Short Message Service) system using a TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) based on the wireless Internet and a method therefor are provided to send character messages through connection with an SMS processing server by using a packet data service in a network capable of high speed data transmission, thereby rapidly transmitting large messages. CONSTITUTION: A data link is formed between an MS(Mobile Station) and a packet data processing node, such as an IWF(Inter Working Function) or a PDSN(Packet Data Serving Node). The packet data processing node transmits a character message from the mobile terminal suitably for a standard of an SMS processing server. The SMS processing server performs message processing such as parsing, storage and log management for the transmitted message, and converts a protocol of the message suitably for a standard of an SMSC(Short Message Service Center) to transmit the message. The message from the SMS processing server is stored in the SMSC and transmitted to a receiving MSC(Mobile Switching Center) by checking a location of a receiving MS. The message is delivered to a BTS(Base station Transceiver System) including the receiving MS from the receiving MSC and transmitted to the receiving MS through a wireless network. |
