PURPOSE: A device for deciding a fault position of an optical line is provided to branch portions of communication signals in optical lines, and to always monitor the lines, then to make a test light incident on an optical line only having a fault, thereby quickly recovering the optical line. CONSTITUTION: Multiplexers/demultiplexers(15-1,15-2,...15-n) separate or multiplex communication signals from test light signals. Monitoring signal separators(14-1,14-2,...14-n) separate portions of the separated communication signals as monitoring signals. Line monitors(16-1,16-2,...16-m) decide states of many external optical lines(11-1,11-2,...11-n) from the separated communication signals. A system controller(15) controls to test an optical line having a fault according to the decided states, and controls to display a tested result on an operator terminal(19). A line state measurer(18) selects the optical line having the fault, outputs a test light signal, and analyzes the returning test light signal to obtain data on a fault state. The operator terminal(19) displays a state of the optical line having the fault. |
