BATTERY CHARGER AND CHARGE CONTROL SYSTEM

A battery charger and charge control system 10 charge series connected lithium-ion batteries 14 to a voltage in the range of about 4.1 volts and about 4.3 volts per battery 14 with a voltage input to the system 10 in the range of about 4.1 to about 4.5 volts per battery 14. Switching efficiencies associated with the system allow the charging and charge control circuitry 12 of the system 10 to be positioned within the battery housing 15. The charging and charge control circuitry 12 may amount onto a single circuit board 18. Moreover, the battery charger and charge control system 10 allows the lithium-ion batteries 14 to simultaneously charge and discharge.
