PURPOSE: A plate type beam splitter, a manufacturing method thereof, and an optical pickup device adopting the same are provided to reduce production error scatter, even when relatively low transmittance is applied, so that a sufficient design margin is secured. CONSTITUTION: In a plate type beam splitter(50), a reflective coating surface(51) is formed in one side of a transparent plate(55). A transmission coating surface(53) has transmittance that partially transmits incident light formed in the other opposite side of the transparent plate. The reflective coating surface is formed with metal coating on one surface of the transparent plate. The transmission coating surface is formed with AR(Anti-Reflection) coating on the opposite side of the transparent plate within the transmittance for partially transmitting the incident light. The transmission coating surface is coated with the transmittance approximately from 50% to 90%. And the plate type beam splitter is formed with desired transmittance by controlling the specification in coating of the transmission coating surface, within the transmittance for partially transmitting the incident light.
