<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission type electron emitter having higher efficiency than conventional technology in technical fields for the field emission type electron emitter, being formed more consistently at lower cost than the conventional technology, eliminating the need for consideration of having effect on environment and for high vacuum environment typically required for the conventional technology, and having superiority to the conventional technology and high emitting efficiency around the center region of a flat electron emitter element. <P>SOLUTION: The field emission type planar electron emitter element is disclosed which has an emission electrode, an extraction electrode and the planar emitter electron emission layer electrically connected to the emission electrode and the extraction electrode. The planer electron emitter is constructed so that the rate of electron emission is greater in the center region than in the outside region of the emission layer.
