A control device for controlling the print cylinders of a print machine has a first sensor (12) for detection of sheets (5) on a conveyor belt (1) and print cylinders for application of the print images. The control device is designed so that the distance between the sheet detector and the nip (4) of the printer rollers is equal to an integer multiple of the circumference of the counter pressure roller (27). The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
