The present invention relates to a device for enabling a motor vehicle to change gear. The device incorporates a gearbox (14) with gearchange means (15-21) to allow at least two different gears to be engaged in the gearbox (14), a gearchange control (1) which is positionable in specific positions in order to initiate engagement of the respective gears in the gearbox 814), and an arm (5) which is designed to transmit movements of the gearchange control (1) to the gearchange mans (15-21). The arm (5) is pivotably connected to the gearchange control (1) not only about a first articulation (4a) in order to enable the arm (5) to move in substantially its longitudinal direction, but also about a second articulation (4b) in order to allow the arm (5) to move substantially transversely to its longitudinal direction.
