The folding device (1) for a paper sheet has a baseplate (3) with a slot (7) for one-way or zigzag folding. The baseplate has a stop bar (4) with an extension (13) against which the paper to be folded can be positioned. The paper is also fixed in position by clamps (10, 11). When the folding operation is complete, it can be pulled out sideways.
