<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-sintered nickel electrode high in charging efficiency of an active material and little in scatter thereof, and further a nickel-hydrogen battery having high discharge capacity and excellent charge/discharge performance by reducing the amount of discharge reserve formation. <P>SOLUTION: The non-sintered nickel electrode for an alkaline battery comprises nickel hydroxide as a main active material and contains carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) having an etherification degree ranging from 0.9 to 2.5.
