PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating color in which a limitation concerning to the relative quantity of coloring agent in different parts within a printable color range can be adjusted by a simple and reliable method. SOLUTION: In order to separate color, a color can be defined as a set of values in an orbital space where an orbit is defined including a point of known ink performance under color separation, and the coloring agent value concerning to the color can be measured using a simple interpolation technology based on the value of a color located in one orbital space, a known value at one orbital point and a corresponding coloring agent value. The orbit is preferably a color axis dividing the orbital space into tetrahedrons. A coloring agent value thus obtained can be further corrected using such a technology as replacing or dividing the coloring agent. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
