New cosmetic and/or dermatological preparations contain inclusion compounds (A) derived from: (1) beta-branched aliphatic carboxylic acids (I); and (2) cyclodextrins or their derivatives. New cosmetic and/or dermatological preparations contain inclusion compounds (A) derived from: (a) one or more of carboxylic acid(s) of formula (I) and their salts; and (b) one or more of cyclodextrins (CDs) and their derivatives. R1 = alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group of 1-24C (containing up to 3 double and/or triple bonds and optionally including cyclic alkyl, alkenyl and/or alkynyl units); and R2 = alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group of 1-12C (containing up to 3 double and/or triple bonds and optionally including cyclic alkyl, alkenyl and/or alkynyl units). Independent claims are also included for: (i) The preparation of (A), by adding compound (1) to an aqueous solution of (2), followed by filtering off and vacuum drying the obtained precipitate if (2) is a native CD, or evaporating the solution to dryness and vacuum drying the residue (or removing the solvent by spray-drying or lyophilization) if (2) is a substituted CD; (ii) The production of sprayable cosmetic and/or dermatological preparations containing (I), by using (I) in the form of an inclusion compound (A); and (iii) The use of CDs or their derivatives for increasing the antimicrobial activity of cosmetic and/or dermatological preparations containing carboxylic acids.
