A method for electric discharge machining a work (2a) composed of an insulating material, wherein, in order to solve the problem that the pulse width of a long discharge pulse for forming a conductive coating (20) on the work (2a) by generating turbostratic layer carbon (crystalline carbon) from carbon contained in working fluid (4a) is not constant to cause variation in the thickness of the conductive coating (20) being formed, inter-pole voltage (V) is measured and machining is performed by setting a short discharge pulse width (Tp1) or a long discharge pulse width (Tp2) depending on the measurement. Since an appropriate discharge pulse width can be set depending on the state of the conductive coating (20), machining is stabilized and the quality of machining face can be enhanced.
|
