PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining a metal, improved so that silicon having about 6 N of purity used as a solar cell can efficiently be produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: The silicon as the raw material containing boron and slag consisting essentially of calcium oxide, are melted and a shaft 5 is rotated with a rotation-driving mechanism to stir the molten silicon. Three phases of treating gas, the molten slag and the molten silicon, are very effectively mixed to progress a boron removing reaction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
