PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an indoor environment by absorbing a volatile organic compound (VOC) with efficiency by means of a VOC adsorbent which is applied and mixed by adversely taking advantage of material and structural characteristics of a core plate made from a magnetic-tape shrinkage piece arousing the fear of the discharge of the VOC, in a tatami mat using the core plate. SOLUTION: A panel, which is to be used as the core plate 2 for the tatami mat 1, is pressure-molded from: the curled magnetic-tape shrinkage piece which is constituted by heat- treating magnetic-tape piece; and a binder which is composed of a hardening resin. The VOC absorbent, which contains a hydrazid compound, an azole compound, an azine compound or the like, is applied to a surface of the core plate 2; a nonwoven fabric 3, which serves as a cushioning material, is placed on the VOC adsorbent; and tatami facing 4, which is made from rush, is superposed on the nonwoven fabric 3. In terms of a long-side-direction end of the tatami mat 1, the tatami facing 4 is rolled in to the side of an under surface of the core plate 2; and a part from a side surface of the tatami mat 1 to an under surface thereof is sewn with a sewing thread 5. A short-side-direction end of the tatami mat 1 is covered with tatami edge cloths 6; and each of the cloths 6 is sewn from a side surface to an under surface with the sewing thread 5.
