PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of contriving speed up by shortening load time of palette information according to each displayed image while adopting a display method in a color palette system and a method for specifying the palette of the display device. SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of optional color palettes having a common use color is defined as a commonizable color palettes, a common part palette in which use colors common to them are stipulated and each intrinsic palette stipulated by excluding the common use colors for each of the commonizable color palettes are stored, each of them is specified by combination of the common part palette and each intrinsic palette, when each of the commonizable color palettes is specified, when the common part palette is identical to the loaded common part palette, only each intrinsic palette is loaded and when the common part palette is not identical to the loaded common part palette, the common part palette and each intrinsic palette are loaded.
