摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacture method of a glass pipe for a optical fiber which reliably can obtain the optical fiber having an excellent optical transmission property. SOLUTION: A long-size glass material 10 is heated by a heat source 11 which relatively moves along the longitudinal direction and, thereby, a region to be bored in which the glass material 10 is softened is formed. At the same time, a borer 12 of which the relative position with respect to the heat source 11 is kept constant is squeezed from the end surface 10A of the glass material 10 along the center axis and, thereby, the glass pipe 13 is manufactured. Subsequently, the inner peripheral surface 13A of the glass pipe is chemically etched with an amount in accordance with the content of transition metal in the borer 12, heating temperature and heating time.
