METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING GLASS PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a glass preform in which a fine glass particle deposit is formed based on an outside vapor deposition method and it is made into clear glass. SOLUTION: An accumulative layer 3 of the fine glass particle is formed on a starting glass rod 1 rotating while reciprocating in an axial direction by a burner 9 for producing the fine glass particle. Then, the accumulative layer 3 is heated to obtain the clear glass. The accumulative layer 3 is made into the clear glass whenever the starting glass rod 1 reciprocates by a heating means 12 arranged at one side or both sides of the burner 9. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
