A collection device (6) for the sediment (4) is introduced into the sedimentation tank (1) before the liquid (2), and can later be removed to remove the sediment. A method for separating solids from a liquid involves supplying the liquid into a reservoir or tank and allowing the solids to sediment. Prior to adding the liquid, a collection device for the sediment is introduced into the tank, and this device can later be removed from the tank in order to remove the sediment. An Independent claim is also included for the separator device used in the above method.
