PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting pathogenic prionoproteins in a sample of a humor of human or animal origin which contains a PrP protein that is thought to be a first natural nonpathogenic conformation PrPC and a second pathogenic conformation PrPSC. SOLUTION: The chemical agent and the prionoproteins react to form covalent bond in a humor sample which can be chemically modified, and thereby, the humor sample is chemically modified. The prionoproteins wherein at least one additional peak are observed in the mass spectrum is mass- spectrometrically analyzed when the pathogenic prion is present. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
