PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inclined part high speed escalator capable of changing the speed smoothly without applying large acceleration. SOLUTION: The shape of an auxiliary rail 6 in the speed change region of a step 2 is determined by finding the physical relation of a drive roller shaft 9 of the adjacent step 2 based on a step speed profile indicating the speed of the drive roller shaft 9 per unit time. The physical relation of the adjacent step 2 relative to the step 2 is found based on the step speed profile, and the shape of a riser 8 is determined so that the physical relation corresponds to the locus of the relative movement of the adjacent step 2.
