摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect caused by hysteresis in the applied voltage vs. defection angle characteristics based on the refractive index vs. voltage characteristics as for a method of controlling an optical deflection element employing a ferroelectric substance and an optical transmission system. <P>SOLUTION: When the deflection angle of the optical deflection element in which the deflection angle is switched by an optical switching using an electro-optic effect of a ferroelectric substance is switched to a prescribed deflection angle, a voltage (V+&Delta;V), which is larger than a voltage V that is required for the prescribed deflection angle, is applied, and then the voltage is returned to the voltage V which is needed for the prescribed deflection angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
