PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent excessive thrust force from being applied to an output shaft 4 when a one-way clutch 5 returns on the shaft 4, and to stop rotation of a motor 2 promptly after energization of the motor 2 is turned off. SOLUTION: The one-way clutch 5 that is helical-spline fitted on the output shaft 4 is energized to rearward of the shaft via a lever 27 when the starter stops, and a flange 5b placed on the rear end of a barrel portion 5a is pressed to a brake member 7. The brake member 7 is placed next to an end surface on a reverse motor side of a bearing 20a put on a center case 20 and caulked to the bearing 20a. When the clutch 5 is pushed back to rearward of the shaft through the lever 27, the flange 5b of the clutch 5 is pressed to the brake member 7.
