PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and inexpensive optical shift detector reduced in the number of part items, and capable of measuring an object to be measured even when no unevenness exists on the surface of the object to be measured. SOLUTION: In this optical shift detector, light is emitted from a light emitting part 10 to the object to be measured 9 moving along a prescribed direction though a condenser lens 11. A prescribed portion of the object to be measured 9 is irradiated thereby whit the light, and the portion serves as a hot spot 12 to emit and infrared ray. The infrared ray emitted from the hot spot 12 is detected by passing through a condensing element 13, a slit 14, and a photo- receiving element 15 in this order, and a detection signal is output to a computing circuit 21. The output waveform of the detection signal is brought into a periodic one wherein the maximum values and the minimum values are repeated in accompaniment to the moving of the hot spot 12. A moving speed of the object to be measured 9 is found based on the periodic cycle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
