<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further lower a temperature in which oxidation combustion of PM can be preformed and further increase an oxidation reaction speed of the PM. <P>SOLUTION: At least one of a catalyst for exhaust emission control and a hydrocarbon adsorbent, and an ultrasonic device 3 which applies ultrasonic wave to them are provided, and the ultrasonic wave is applied to a liquid catalyst component and a liquid hydrocarbon. By the application of the ultrasonic wave, a cavitation is generated in a liquid, and by an adiabatic compression occurring there, an energy is concentrated. When a cavity (bubble) is broken, high temperature and high pressure state locally occurs, whereby an oxidation (combustion) of the PM is accelerated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
