摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-resolution crystal structure of the 30S ribosome subunit of a prokaryote, and the use of the structure in search of a medicine. SOLUTION: This crystal structure is high resolution X-ray crystal structure of the 30S ribosome, obtained from Themus thermophilus 30S subunit. The structure has a tetragonal space group P4<SB>1</SB>2<SB>1</SB>2 to which an antibiotic selected from the group of paramomycin, streptomycin, spectinomycin, tetracycline, pactamycin and hygromycin B binds. An advantageous feature of the structure is that it diffracts at about 3 angstrom resolution. The crystal of 30S having the three dimensional atomic coordinates of the 30S ribosome, the coordinates being provided in any one of tables 1 to 4 (refer to the specification) is also provided. The data may be used for the rational design and modeling of inhibitors for the 30S ribosome, which have potential use as antibodies. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
