PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display which makes it possible to recognize that a cooling process is not performed normally owing to an abnormal power-OFF operation and can evade repetition of the abnormal power- OFF operation. SOLUTION: The projection type video display equipped with a light source lamp and a light valve which modulates the intensity of the light of the light source lamp is provided with a nonvolatile storage means which stores a flag showing whether or not the cooling process of cooling the light source lamp by a cooling fan for a certain period after power-OFF operation has been completed normally, a judging means which judges in power-ON operation whether or not the cooling process has been performed normally in last power-OFF operation, and a notification means which informs a user that the cooling process has not been performed normally in the last power-OFF operation when the judging means judges so.
