PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for removing sludge in a molten salt for descaling stainless steel. SOLUTION: In a stainless steel annealing and pickling line, sludge is settled down by dropping the temperature of molten salt from the service temperature by 20-100°C, the settled sludge is removed, and the temperature of the molten salt is returned to the service temperature. A settling tank to intermittently or continuously receive a part of the molten salt in a molten salt tank is provided adjacent to the molten salt tank, the temperature of the molten salt is dropped by 20-100°C in the settling tank to settle the sludge, the settled sludge is taken out of the settling tank and disposed, and the molten salt in the settling tank after the sludge is settled is returned to the molten salt tank to effectively remove the sludge.
