The automation system (1) comprises several components including hardware component, software component (13), control units for storing descriptive data. A query program (10) started automatically after initializing of automation system, reads descriptive data so as to generate a current document (15) in markup language from the descriptive data. The current document and the previous documents (24,25) or stored in memory. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) documentation generation method for automation system; and (2) documentation generation program for automation system.
