PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device for a screw conveyor of a shield machine capable of preventing deterioration of a seal member due to a contact surface of the seal member's being subjected to high temperature and extending life by cooling the contact surface of the seal member, extending sealing life of the seal member by shifting positions of contact surface of the seal member, and facilitating disassembly and assembly of a conveyor housing part around the seal member. SOLUTION: An annular opening part 3c is provided in a longitudinal direction of a part of a conveyor housing 3, a drive ring 5 rotating with blades 2d of a screw auger 2 as one body is rotatably arranged in the opening part 3c via the seal member 11a-11c, a hydraulic motor 8 is mounted on the conveyor housing 3, the hydraulic motor 9 and the drive ring 5 are connected via reduction gears 9a, 5g, cooling jackets 6b, 7b are formed in housing parts 6, 7 which the seal member 11 a keep sliding contact with to water-cool the housing part 6,7 by circulating cooling water in the cooling jacket 6b, 7b.
