<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image recorder by simplifying an up-and-down mechanism, thereby achieving reductions in size, weight, and cost. <P>SOLUTION: The color image recorder has the up-and-down mechanism 30 which moves image forming parts 16 to 19 upward and downward to a first position where image forming parts 16 to 19 are in pressure contact with a carrying belt 13 and to a second position where the image forming parts 16 to 19 are a specific distance spaced from the carrying belt 13.
