PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding device for a sheet-like body capable of performing a process of tilting a seam of base cloth in a desired direction with favorable workability. SOLUTION: The folding device for the sheet-like body is provided with a conveying means for folding an upper rim part of the sheet-like body so that a crease extends in a longitudinal direction by holding the upper rim part of the sheet-like body by left and right conveying mechanisms 2 and 3 and conveying the sheet-like body while mutually twisting them in opposite directions, and a sewing machine 4 for coupling the folded portion. It is provided with lead-in mechanisms 10 and 20 with releasing functions provided in respective lead-in sides of the left and right conveying mechanisms 2 and 3 and formed so they can temporarily release holding of the sheet-like body, a pressing roller 30 detecting the seam of the sheet-like body in a stage prior to the lead-in mechanisms 10 and 20, and a seam automatic stopping/operating function of stopping conveyance of the sheet-like body when the seam of the sheet-like body enters conveyance paths of the left and right lead-in mechanisms 10 and 20.
