PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably apply tension against a sheet material even during the time when a vertical position of a dancer roller is displaced from a standard position and the dancer roller is returning from a displaced position to the standard position. SOLUTION: In the dancer controller, tension of the sheet material 1 is controlled by adjusting a dancer pressure applied to the dancer roller 9 applying the tension to the sheet material 1 continuously conveyed by conveying rollers 2 and 3. It is provided with a position detector 12 detecting the vertical position of the dancer roller 9, a position controlling circuit 13 operating a position correcting amount for returning the vertical position of the dancer roller 9 from a detected position to the preset standard position on the basis of the detected position, a dancer pressure correcting circuit 14 operating movement inertia force of the dancer roller 9 when it is returning from the detected position to the standard position on the basis of the position correcting amount, and a pressure setter 11 adjusting the dancer pressure on the basis of the movement inertia force.
