PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relief valve which adjusts time to keep low pressure when the relief valve is changed from a non-active state to an active state without reducing the diaphragm diameter. SOLUTION: This relief valve has: a rod 12 having a poppet 9 which can be engaged/disengaged with a seat 4, a small diameter part 10 slidably fitted to a hollow hole 7 of the poppet 9, a large diameter part 11 slidably fitted to an inner hole 2 of a housing 5; a spring 15 pressing an end 13 inside the poppet 9 and an end 14 inside the large diameter part of the rod 12 in the separating direction; and a cover 16 closing the other end of the housing 5 in capable of contact with an end 24 outside the large diameter part of the rod 12. At an end outside the small diameter part of the rod 12 fitted to the hollow hole 7 of the poppet 9, a plurality of peripheral grooves 21, a small hole 22 in the axial direction communicating between an end face 26 outside the small diameter part of the rod 12 and each of the peripheral grooves 21 and a hole 23 in the radial direction communicating to the innermost peripheral groove 21 are provided, and a hole 25 in the axial direction communicating to the radial direction hole 23 and opened at the end 24 outside the large diameter part of the rod 12 is provided at the rod 12.
