PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for efficiently manufacturing an optical fiber having a uniform quality throughout its entire length, wherein the illuminance of ultraviolet rays applied to the optical fiber and the cure extent of an UV- curing resin are kept constant throughout the drawing operation. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber-drawing step in the process for manufacturing an optical fiber, around and optical fiber obtained by heat drawing a preform for an optical fiber, an ultraviolet-curing resin is applied using a resin applicator and cured by exposing it to UV irradiation in an ultraviolet-curing over. Here, the oxygen concentration inside a tubular structure set within the ultraviolet- curing oven is >1.0 to 2.0 vol.%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
