The invention relates to an installation and process for producing a hollow body from blanks, cut out from at least a web of material, in particular a textile material for producing air bags and coverings for seats or cushions. The installation comprises a main part (16) in the shape of a plate (16) which is self-enclosed in a ring like manner, two side plates (18, 19), the contours of which match those of the main part, and one or two sewing device (48, 59). The walls of the main part (16) and the side plates (18 and 19) are provided with suction openings (24) connected to a suction installation so as to ensure the securing of the blanks by suction. In another constructive embodiment, the inner surfaces of the walls of the main part (16) and of the side plates (18 and 19) are provided with adequate means used for securing the blanks by electrostatical charging. The installation further includes a driving unit for moving the side plates (18 and 19) in adequate positions in order to secure the edges of the blanks during the stitching procedure, and, namely the retracting thereof after the stitching procedure. In the proximity of the side plate edges there are provided some guides used for displacing the sewing devices.
