PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating material for external surfaces of cans, free from toxicity, or the like, having rapid curing rate, not causing shrinkage in polymerization and capable of providing a coating film excellent in corrosion resistance, water resistance, adhesion, or the like, and processability. SOLUTION: This coating material for the external surfaces of cans is obtained by irradiating a coating material composition for the external surfaces of cans comprising a compound having two oxetane rings and/or three oxetane rings and a photo cation polymerization initiator, and optionally further containing a compound having an epoxy group or a compound having vinyl ether group and/or optionally further containing a compound having (meth) acryloyl group and a photoradical polymerization initiator with an active energy.
