PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating resin composition particularly excellent in adhesion to metallic surfaces and having satisfactory high processability and corrosion resistance and a metallic plate coated therewith. SOLUTION: The coating resin composition comprises a polyester resin containing a molecule in which carboxyl group is introduced in a pendant-like state in a midway of the molecular chain, preferably a polyester resin in which resin acid value is given by ring-opening addition reaction of a compound having one or more carboxylic anhydride structures in the molecule and a crosslinking agent. In the polyester resin,≥10 mol% carboxylic anhydride used in the ring- opening addition reaction has two or more carboxylic anhydride groups in the molecule when total carboxylic anhydride used in the ring-opening addition reaction is defined as 100 mol% and the number-average molecular weight after ring-opening addition reaction is 3,000 to 100,000.
